It occurred to me that I was lacking some vital survival skill, like living as a person who couldn't swim in a world of water. When I felt like a defective product, a dish missing an important ingredient, a ship that didn't float, or a submarine that didn't sink, I curled up and played dead. I was sad that nothing happened and hoped nothing would happen.
